Anyway will the rock crosses have silkie fur or chicken feathers ,oh there leggs are feathered and they have 5 toes..Any clues on all the strange colors?

Re: Silkie Rocks?

Are they actually barred or are you just seeing a BR chick color?  Solid black with white head spot?

When you mix colors you can end up with any color combination..........I had a buff roo and white hen and ended up with solid black silkie chicks who later on ended up with goldish highlights.

So unless you are seeing a definite BR color pattern there is still the chance of pure silkies with strange colors.

Oh yeah, I *think* the chicks would have to get the silkie feathering gene from BOTH parents in order to show it, so a silkie mix will have normal feathering.

Re: Silkie Rocks?

They have the definate barred rock pattern they are in a brooder with some actual barred rock chicks and other then the size and black beak, feet and skin they all look the same. Black with white spots on there head a d white speckleing on there wings and back ..they dont have the white rumps though after closer evaluation 2 have 5 toes on right foot only and 1 has 5 toes on left foot only  the othere have 5 toes on both feet.
