Two chicks have feathers on their legs!

What breed has feathers on the legs?  Curly is the only one with any feathers at all on his legs, and he only has a couple on one leg... hmm  These two already have feathers almost all the way down both legs... shock  We know they're mixed, but know idea with what...  roll

Sorry, but Toffee is not real keen on us getting close enough to the kids with the camera or I'd take pics...  hmm

Re: Two chicks have feathers on their legs!

There are quite a few breeds that have feathered legs.

I'm assuming all of your originals come from the same mix, so they all can carry the gene for feathered legs even though they don't show it.
What that means is Curly isn't necessarily the daddy of those 2 chicks.

Re: Two chicks have feathers on their legs!

I figured that cuz Moe & Larry are his brothers, so they would all come from the same genetic pool...I have been trying to remember what the original boss roo looked like...all I can remember was he was almost all black with a very flamboyant, long tail laced with blue-green and bright, white feathers.  He was killed by a dog last fall...there were still 22 of them back then so it was harder to keep track of what they all looked like...

I do remember the mom though - she was at our place every day with her chicks so we got to watch them grow up sort of...she looked a lot like Toffee, but lighter and with dark splashes here and there.  She was a beautiful bird...There was also a big black roo with white speckles (for lack of a better term)...

Its just kinda fun trying to figure out what they all are...and what these babies might look like as they mature...  tongue

Well, you could stay up all night at look at breed photos on Feathersite.

Langshans have feathered shanks, so do the French-type Marans, Sultans, d'Uccles, Silkies, and Cochins.  IMO, the Brahmas are probably the most popular feather-legged breed in small home flocks.
