I have one Buff Orpington hen that is about one year old. Her poop seems normal. But she keeps a dirty backside. She is a good layer and seems healthy other than the dirty backside. I have cleaned her up a couple of times, but in a few days the backside looks bad again.
Do you have roosters?
Since the poop appears normal, no really bad smelling droppings...it doesn't sound like she has "vent gleet". You could try trimming a few feathers around the vent.
ok, another new word or is that words???? what on earth is vent gleet?????
I know. I had to deal with that on a couple of hens. When I looked up gleet and saw the causes I asked Shawn if he's emptying the feed buckets COMPLETELY prior to putting new feed in them.
"....ummm, no. I just put the (new) feed on top of the minimal (older) feed in there. Why?"
