lots of pics

I haven't sent any pics for awhile....don't know if that is good or bad, so here are some more. woot

Originally this chick was thought to be an EE, but I thought EE's had a pea comb.  she has a single comb.

My Favorelle Roo hasn't gotten his tail feathers yet, but is really pretty.  Worried because he is rough with the Bantam chicks

I have several breeds of "black" birds.  One set has white ear lobes and the others are REALLY dark, and combs dark as well.  How do I tell them apart to discover breed?????

This chick...a Dominique? sings, whistles and coos when she sees my DH!

Isn't she pretty?

These little game birds have so much personality.  We just love them.  Easy to handle and get along with the other chicks!

Hope this post isn't so large that you all faint dead away!

Re: lots of pics

Great pics   and Beautiful birds!!!!    smile   Your black birds with white earlobes are probably Andalusians.

I had been thinking the same thing lately, there haven't been any new pics, I thought about putting some more up of my birds, but then thought maybe some are getting tired of seeing my birds!   haha

Re: lots of pics

Never tired of seeing pictures of chicks....I ask that the person who posts tell us what they are
(IF they know!)
The black with white ear lobes looked like sea gulls when very small.
Is the white/black a Dominique or BR?....they look so similar. (to the unexperienced)

Re: lots of pics

She has a rose comb so she's Dominique.
And the one where you put "Isn't she pretty"   looks like a blue Andalusian too.  Not sure if you know, but with the blue color, you get blue, black and splash.

Re: lots of pics

Tammy, I don't Plan on breeding this hen, but have seen the splash and they are really pretty.  I am having enough trouble with my Favorelle Rooster........I posted a note so I will know what to do with him, but haven't had any remarks yet about his bad behavior and any remedy.
At least I know that I have 4 Dominiques.  The caramel colored one has me really baffled....could it be a Buff Rock? Or is she just too small?

Re: lots of pics

In the last pic, looks like the buff colored one has pinkish looking feet,  she could be a Buff Orpington.   They are a heavy breed and she looks kinda small right now, but if they are hatchery stock that would explain the smaller size.
I have barred rock and plymouth rock and they both have yellow feet but I'm not familiar with buff rock.  I would think they would have yellow feet too but   shrug

My guess would be Buff Orp, then Buff rock.

I haven't read about your roo problems but if you are experiencing aggressiveness, I don't think I can help you with that.  I've had a few aggressive roos and they were rehomed because nothing we tried seemed to make them any better.

Re: lots of pics

my DH wants to know how long to keep him in isolation?  I know that roos don't like to be isolated from the hens, and typically don't do well, but how do I know when to add him back to the flock?

Re: lots of pics

Once your girls start laying you can put him back with the flock.    He will calm down once he matures some more and adjusts to his own bodily changes.

You might can put him back in a week or so.   Sometimes just pulling him out for a while will work because he comes back in at the bottom of the pecking order.   But roos know their place and he will quickly try to lure the hens into being submissive to him.   This is not a pretty sight if they don't submit, he will chase them until they duck down and put their head in the corner, and he will stand over top of them for a short time.   But that's if they don't submit to him.

I'd leave him out for maybe a week and try putting him back, if it doesn't work, take him back out and wait until your girls are laying.
