I just had to say that here. I know my hubby and everyone else at home is tired of hearing it. I just can't pay $100+ fro one right now. I know it would pay itself back though.

It's ok. You'll get one someday.

Me, too RubberChickenLubber. After working on dh for nearly 2yrs he finally agreed.. and yet I can't justify spending the money on her, or on the feed...
*sigh*
Now- that doesn't mean if I find the right one at the right price I won't give in.... in a heartbeat :bfs

You don't have to spend $100 on a goat. I got mine for $40 each. Of course they don't have "papers", but that's OK. Also, you need to get more than one goat - they are herd animals and need companionship, otherwise they will get lonely and will complain loudly and try to escape and other bad behavior.

I can't even find a cross, except one and it was $125. I don't care if I have papers. The only problem with 2 is that's $200, unless I get a regular pygmy to go with it.

have you tried the auction house yet? to bad your not closer to me. we have about 100 goats up the road that the sherrifs are going to have to take from there owner, they are not feeding them.

I haven't tried an auction, and really can't. I have a 2 and 3 year old with 7:30 bedtimes, and no sitter. Most of the auctions are at night. BTW...quit teasing

I wonder what the post office would say if we tried to mail one!

My dream is actually a milk cow, but we don't have the pasture land (yet) that a cow needs. I've been doing alot of thinking and now feel like I should start out with a couple milk goats before making the leap to a cow. I've done alot of research of both cows and goats. I think I want to get to female Nubians - supposedly their milk has a higher fat content than other breeds.
I'm like you when it comes to money - we just don't have alot to spare right now. I've got a few contacts that have show quality goats and they tell me that not all of the babies are show quality and they will sale them to me at a much reduced rate or they might sale some of the older does cheaper.
It's sad to say, but alot of Farmers and Breeders are having to go out of business around us because the prices of feed are so expensive now. Maybe you can find someone on your local craigslist that is willing to almost give you part of their herd just so they know their animals will be going to a good home and not to someone dinner table.

It's sad. 3 or 4 years ago, I would have put $150 in a puppy, and now I won't put $100 in a goat.
