Are really sweet.
Lenore is the smartest out of all of my chickens.
She lays everyday.
She is yet to take a break since she started laying.
She also lays EARLY in the morning, rather than anytime during the day, like my other chickens.
She follows me.
If I knock on the window she immediately looks up.
Today I peeked through a hole in the fence, she saw me, and ran over to greet me.
She has the most personality.
She expresses her feelings about EVERYTHING.
If she is mad, she will grunt.
If she is scared, she runs like the wind.
If she is happy, she follows you, and (almost) doesn't say a word.
If you are holding her and she needs to take a poo, she squirms.
I made the mistake of not letting her go today
But she is by far my favorite chicken.
She is so curious, sweet, likable.
Now I know why Cynthia on the other board always raves about her barred rocks.
And yes, she is a barred rock, the eggs are just a normal brown now.
I deffinately reccommend barred rocks to any person wanting a chicken for a pet and for eggs.
GO BARRED ROCKS!

My sweet girl Lenore, perched on me.

Rosy, so glad you have had good luck with her. I seem to be the only barred rock owner that happens to have a terror for a chicken.

Well Lenore's personality might be from she was raised as a lone chick... I was her mommy

Nice birds! The chicks in my brooder now (33 total...so far) are all BRs. I have seen pictures of them to get an idea of what they will look like when they are older and boy, I am in trouble! They are so beautiful! Good luck processing them, huh? I do have a rooster BR but the hens have so much more character. Some how.
I am still excited!!!

Are you processing them all, or just the males?

Well, the idea is that I would get straight run and process all males since I already have a BR roo...then the females would live for about 2 years and process them at that time. By the looks of it...this might be more of a chore than I anticipated. With all the worrying I've been doing...it just would not be fair to off them in two years. A part of me is thinking I should just let them live a long life.
I know, I am in trouble!
Hopefully, they'll ALL be roos.
Yeah...that'll happen!

3 out of the four I have are terrific. Curious and personable.
The fourth.. egad. She has her not-so-nice moments. Seems to finally have settled in, though.
