Cricket....Cricket....Cricket

My boys have a salamander and I bought crickets for it yesterday, all I can hear is my computer and cricket....cricket.....cricket.... and sometimes a snore LOL

Anyone ever had a salamander? Pretty boring... he hides most times in his dark hiding places but the kids get a kick out of him catching the crickets! We have been buying the bigger ones that can rub there legs LOL

Re: Cricket....Cricket....Cricket

that's funny, adding more noise to the cacophony you probably already have. Imagine what would happen if the chooks found those crickets   shock
It would be a cricket massacre!

Re: Cricket....Cricket....Cricket

I use to order crickets for my chickens. Talk about madness when I would walk out there with my can of them!! hide

Re: Cricket....Cricket....Cricket

When dh comes back from fishing, he lets the kids feed the chickens the leftover crickets.

I swear they just about knock the kids down!  rotflol

Re: Cricket....Cricket....Cricket

I had some salamanders when i was a kid that I caught, but never kept them for very long.
Salamanders around here live in the dirt, like earth worms, so I don't imagine you would see them much.
Other then that I had one that I bought that lived primarily in the water and ate fish food stuff, that one was probably a better choice, of you want to see them. shrug

Re: Cricket....Cricket....Cricket

I guess I should of come back to this post awhile ago LOL
Mr Salamandar is still around, we have had him a little over a year now, he spent the summer in his tank outside under the covered patio, so the crickets would stop annoying the kids while they tried to sleep. Or maybe so the kids would quit annoying me complaining about the crickets while thry tried to get to sleep LOL.
The weathers getting cold now, don't want him to freeze in his tank, so we were going to bring him in for the winter, I went to my sons school, that day they found a frog and it was going to be there "class pet" I asked the teacher if she wanted a salamandar for a class pet, in her perfect 1st grade teacher bubbly additude she gave me a huge smile and said AWESOME! She would LOVE that! Then said they could keep it for the rest of the school year and return at the end of school. Perfect for me too!! Since the little salamandar didnt get much attention at home, hiding all the time, the kids could hardly ever see him. I redid the tank, bought fake plants, since the live ones alway died on me, and put in just a little thin layer of dirt and moss so he couldnt hide as well. The kids in class love to search for him in the tank while at the listening table (listening to stories), its been a big hit in the class!

So now, I am on the search for another pet for them, I am thinking about a firebelly toad or 2. I will make another thread. smile
