How do you tell if chickens have parasite

The way to be sure about parasite status at any given time is to take a fecal sample to the vet and have them look for indications, usually eggs, on a slide. You should call the vet first and ask how much they want, what kind of container, etc. Since chickens eat what they eat outside, many people worm them routinely. If they will be confined all winter you could worm them after they have been outside for the last time in the fall, or after roundworm activity has ended for the season. Your vet can tell you when this would be for your area. There may be times of heavy infestation or vulnerability during the warm weather. If you know when these are, then you can worm afterward to help keep the numbers down inside your birds. Any kind of stress or trauma always affects production first, since a surplus is an excess effort above mere survival.
